Join us for a special book discussion of "The Cello Still Sings: A Generational Story of the Holocaust and of the Transformational Power of Music" by Janet Horvath, sponsored by the AAUW Johnstown branch and Hope Springs Eternal: Holocaust Education Project.

A sweeping history of three generations darkened by the long shadow of the Holocaust, The Cello Still Sings is a vivid, moving, and true story of personal discovery. The book contains humorous anecdotes as well as 60 historic photos including of the survivor orchestra in which the author's father played, with the legendary maestro Leonard Bernstein at the helm.

Our book discussion will serve as preparation for the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra concert, "Heroes," which will take place on May 10 at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature poignant and inspiring works by Jewish composers whose lives and careers were profoundly impacted by the Holocaust. Learn more about the concert and composers, and purchase tickets here: https://www.johnstownsymphony.org/hope-springs-eternal-1

Limited copies of the book will be available to borrow at Highland Community Library with a current library card.

No registration is required, and participation is free.
